Fisheries production in the first 10 months up 4.9 per cent (10-11-2017)
According to the General Statistics Office of Viet Nam, the country’s fisheries production in October was estimated at 677.3 thousand tons, up 4.9 per cent compared to the same period last year. Of which, fish production reached over 476.5 thousand tons, and shrimp yield gained 93.9 thousand tons, increasing by 3.7 per cent and 8.7 per cent, respectively year on year.
This brought the total fisheries production in the first ten months of this year to 5,800 thousand tons, increasing by 4.5 per cent compared to the same period last year. Of which, aquaculture production was 3,040 thousand tons, up 4.3 per cent, and fishing production gained 2,760 thousand tons, up 4.7 per cent compared to the same period last year.
Aquaculture
In the first 10 months of this year, aquaculture production was 3,040 thousand tons, up 4.3 per cent compared to the same period last year.
Regarding tra fish farming, there was an upward trend both in terms of volume and farming area. Tra fish farming increased by from 1 per cent to 2 per cent compared to the same period last year. Tra fish farming production in October was estimated at over 100 thousand tons, increasing by 2.8 per cent. Of this figure, that of An Giang province was 25.5 thousand tons, increasing by 1 per cent, which was followed by Dong Thap province with farming production reaching 22.4 thousand tons, up 38 per cent and Can Tho province at 12.4 thousand tons, up 24 per cent.
With respective to blackish shrimp farming, it saw a positive performance. Thanks to the raining reason, the salt level reduced which could help shrimp develop. Shrimps have been being harvested in rice–shrimp farming areas and prepared for the next season. In October, blackish shrimp farming production was estimated at 77.6 thousand tons, up 10 per cent compared to the same period last year. Of this figure, black tiger shrimp gained 22 thousand tons, increasing by 1.9 per cent and white leg shrimp gained 55.6 thousand tons, up 15.1 per cent.
Fishing production
In the first 10 months of this year, fishing production was estimated at 2,760 thousand tons, up 4.7 per cent. Of this figure, marine fish production reached 2,597 thousand tons, up 4.9 per cent.
