Fisheries production in the first 8 months of this year up 4.6 per cent (06-09-2017)
According to the Directorate of Fisheries, the country’s fisheries production in August was estimated at 730.5 thousand tons, up 5.7 per cent. Of which, fishing production reached over 296 thousand tons, and aquaculture yield gained 434 thousand tons, increasing by 5.7 per cent compared to the same period last year.
In the first 8 months of this year, fisheries production was estimated at 4,738.4 thousand tons, increasing by 4.6 per cent compared to the same period last year. Of this figure, aquaculture was 2,490.9 thousand tons and fishing production was 2,247.5 thousand tons.
Aquaculture production in August was estimated at 434 thousand tons, an increase of 5.7 per cent compared to the same period last year.
Regarding tra fish farming, its stocking area in the first 8 months reached over 4,000 ha, up 2.95 per cent compared to the same period last year, bringing about 815 thousand tons, up 4.6 per cent compared to the same period last year.
In August, tra fish production was estimated at 146.9 thousand tons, increasing by 2.3 per cent compared to the same period last year. Dong Thap province recorded the highest production of 85.5 thousand tons, up 2.1 per cent, which was followed by Can Tho province at 15.5 thousand tons, up 3.1 per cent and Ben Tre province at 8 thousand tons, up 14.2 per cent
The price of tra fish varied from VND 22 -24 thousand, up VND 3,900 compared to the same period last year.
With respective to shrimp farming, blackish water shrimp farming area was nearly 678 thousand ha, increased by 2.72 per sent compared to the same period last year.. Of this figure, black tiger shrimp farming area in August was over 602 thousand ha, increasing by 2.8 per cent and white leg shrimp farming area was about 75 thousand ha, up 1.9 per cent compared to the same period last year. Blackish shrimp production reached 367 thousand tons, up 14.9 per cent, of which black tiger shrimp production was 165 thousand tons, up 15.9 per cent and white leg shrimp yield was 202 thousand tons, up 14.1 per cent compared to the same period last year. Currently, provinces are harvesting shrimp of first crop while preparing ponds for the next crop.
