Fisheries production in the first six months up 4.2 per cent (13-07-2017)
According to the Directorate of Fisheries (D-FISH), the country’s fisheries production in the first six months of this year was estimated at 3.33 million tons, an increase of 4.2 per cent year on year. Of this figure, fishing production reached 1.66 million tons, up 4.7 per cent and aquaculture yield gained 1.67 million tons, up 3.8 per cent compared to the same period last year.
This is statistics from the workshop on reviewing fisheries performance in the first half and setting up a plan for the second half of this year which was held by Directorate of Fisheries on 30th June 2017 in Ha Noi. The Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development attended and chaired the workshop.
According to D-FISH’s report, in the first six months of this year, total fisheries production in the country was estimated at 3.33 million tons, an increase of 4.2 per cent year on year. Of this figure, fishing production reached 1.66 million tons, up 4.7 per cent and aquaculture yield gained 1.67 million tons, up 3.8 per cent compared to the same period last year. Compared to the year’s plan, total fisheries production fulfilled 48.2 per cent of the year’s plan. Of which, fishing production met 55.4 per cent and aquaculture reached 42.8 per cent of the year’s plan.
This result was attributable to the favorable weather for both aquaculture and fishing. Besides, the price of tra fish raw material saw a strong increase, encouraging farmers to expand their farming.
Aquaculture
In the first six months of this year, the country’s aquaculture production was estimated at 1.67 million tons, up 3.8 per cent compared to the same period last year. Particularly, farming area of blackish water shrimp was estimated at 625.2 thousand ha, an increase of 2.9 per cent compared to the same period last year. Of this figure, black tiger shrimp farming area was 580.2 thousand ha, bringing about 115 tons and white legged shrimp farming area gained 45 thousand ha, yielding 80 tons.
Regarding tra fish, in the first half of this year, tra fish farming area reached 3.2 thousand ha, equal to that in the same period last year. This yielded roughly 550 thousand tons, an increase of 4.7 per cent year on year.
Capture fisheries
Regarding fishing, in the first six months of this year, the country’s total fishing production was estimated at 1.66 million tons, up 4.7 per cent year on year.
Particularly, total fishing production in the Northern fishing season 2016 - 2017 increased by 5.04 per cent compared to the previous fishing season. Of this figure, marine fishing yield rised by 4.84 per cent against last fishing season.
In 2017, fisheries sector targets its fisheries production at 7 million tons, including aquaculture and fishing production of 3.7 million tons and 3.3 million tons, respectively. Also, blackish shrimp farming area is targeted at 700 thousand ha, with production of 675 thousand tons and tra fish farming area at 5 thousand tons with yield of 410 thousand tons.
