In the afternoon of May 22, 2019, in Hanoi, the Directorate of Fisheries (Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development) cooperated with the Vietnam Economic and Culture Office in Taipei; Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Vietnam and the Taiwan Tech Gloria Alliance (Taiwan Ministry of Science and Technology) organized the Vietnam-Taiwan Fisheries Business Connection Forum.

Aquaculture is known as one of the strengths of Vietnam Fisheries. This is identified as a key industry in the fisheries sector structure, receiving much attention from the Government in recent years. Seafood export turnover in recent years has accounted for a large proportion in the export turnover structure of the entire agricultural sector in general. With favorable natural conditions, Vietnam has the advantage of developing aquaculture in all regions of the country and diversified species. Currently, the agricultural sector in general, fisheries and aquaculture in particular is in the process of comprehensive restructuring and applying science and technology progresses with the focus on reducing production costs, environmental protection, and increase product value. Meanwhile, Taiwan has strong experience and science and technology, including fisheries in general and aquaculture in particular. This is a great opportunity for Vietnam to learn and grasp advanced scientific and technological advances in the field of aquaculture and at the same time create a link between Vietnamese scientists, research institutes and enterprises with Taiwanese’s to benefit both sides.

At the Forum, representatives of the Department of Aquaculture (Directorate of Fisheries) introduced an overview of the orientation of aquaculture development in Vietnam, some of Vietnam's regulations on Aquaculture and other Vietnam's main concern now wishes to receive cooperation with Taiwan, which focuses on key priorities such as seed production, machinery systems, supporting equipment, materials and technology in farming, technology and preparations for environmental treatment used in aquaculture, etc.

Representative of Taiwan Association of Fisheries Enterprises said that Taiwan is currently implementing a new policy on development of science and technology, focusing on supporting programs to connect science and technology between Taiwan and other partners, including Vietnam, aimed to connect the Government - researchers and businesses to develop the fisheries sector in general, the aquaculture industry in particular.

On this occasion, the Taiwan delegation also worked with Vietnamese seafood enterprises and associations to seek cooperation opportunities in the coming time.
