In the morning of May 16, 2019, at Bo De Pagoda, Gia Lam, Hanoi, the Directorate of Fisheries, the Vietnamese Buddhist Sangha and the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Hanoi City organized a ceremony to release fish, reproduce the aquatic resources on the occasion of Vesak in 2019 in the area of ​​Bo De pagoda, Long Bien, Hanoi.

This activity is within the framework of the cooperation program between the Directorate of Fisheries and the Vietnamese Buddhist Sangha in the field of seedling release and regeneration of aquatic resources at the riverfront of Bo De pagodas, Long Bien District, Hanoi. This is the third year in a row that the release of spawning and regenerating aquatic resources has been organized by the parties.

Attending the ceremony were representatives of the Directorate of Fisheries, Vietnamese Buddhist Sangha, Department of Agriculture and Rural Development in Hanoi, Sub- Department of Fisheries of Hanoi, representative of Long Bien District and Bo De Ward People's Committee, and representatives of organizations, monks and nuns.

Hanoi city has many large rivers flowing through, with a reservoir system with a total area of ​​4,300ha, including many large lakes such as Suoi Hai lake, Dong Mo lake, West lake and Hoan Kiem lake, etc. In recent years, the Hanoi Department of Agriculture and Rural Development has conducted many activities to protect and regenerate aquatic resources. Every year, release 1-2 tons of fingerlings have been released. At the same time, the protection of aquatic resources is also strictly carried out, strictly dealing with the use of destructive exploitation measures, while focusing on propagating, distributing leaflets and integrating activities of protecting aquatic resources in lectures to educate and propagate for monks, nuns, Buddhists and local people.

This activities of releasing and regenerating aquatic species has got an important spiritual significance while being activities of preserving aquatic resources and the environment, contributing to the restoration and regeneration of aquatic resources; at the same time, to propagate and raise awareness and sense of responsibility of Buddhist monks and nuns, to protect aquatic resources, not to release invasive and potentially invasive alien species into the environment; Encouraging people to release indigenous species of economic value, rare and endangered species in order to restore and regenerate declining aquatic resources.

At the ceremony, 10,000 breeding fish (equivalent to 500kg) including economically valuable species such as carp, grass carp, rohu, barbell chub, etc. were released into the Red River.

Through this activity, the Directorate of Fisheries hopes that organizations, individuals, monks and nuns and Buddhists will join hands to contribute to the restoration and regeneration of fisheries resources towards the common goal of aquatic resource protection and natural environment protection.
