Fisheries Research Collaboration with Indonesia (05-05-2021)

Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc requested that related agencies (the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, the Ministry of Public Security, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs) review and analyze cooperation with Indonesia in the fisheries sector on February 27, 2021.
Fisheries Research Collaboration with Indonesia

The Prime Minister specifically asked the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development to take the lead and coordinate with the Ministries of Public Security and Foreign Affairs to research and collect more information on the possibility of aquaculture production cooperation with Indonesia (especially lobster farming technology). On this basis, Vietnam develops cooperation orientations and policies with the Indonesian side for long-term and comprehensive cooperation in the marine and fisheries sectors; promotes steps to encourage responsible fishing management and combat illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing.

Previously, on February 5, 2021, Vietnamplus e-newspaper had an article "Indonesia wants to cooperate in aquaculture with Vietnam", which reflected: Mr. Sakti Wahyu Trenggono - Minister of Indonesian Sea and Fisheries assessed Vietnam has successful experience in the aquaculture sector (especially in lobster farming technology). As a result, the Indonesian government wants to work with Vietnam to grow the aquaculture industry.

Mr. Sakti Wahyu Trenggono discussed this idea while receiving the Indonesian Ambassador to Vietnam Denny Abdi (in Jakarta on February 4, 2021). Minister Trenggono said at the meeting that Vietnam had good aquaculture experience (especially in lobster farming technology). Cooperation with a neighboring country that has had success in aquaculture, according to Mr. Trenggono, could help Indonesia's industry grow better and become more competitive.

Indonesia intends to invite Vietnam to collaborate on the growth of the country's aquaculture sector. Minister Trenggono believes that the similarities and good old relations between Indonesia and Vietnam would be the foundation for the two countries to be able to cooperate well with each other, particularly in promoting the fisheries sector. He stressed that Indonesia and Vietnam have a long-standing good relationship. There are also several geographical characteristics that are almost identical.

Minister Trenggono expressed his desire to collaborate with Vietnam not only in the field of aquaculture, but also in the field of seafood manufacturing. Minister Trenggono believes that Indonesia and Vietnam should work together for mutual benefit, especially in the production of key seafood products, in order to become ASEAN countries that contribute to the global food supply.

Minister Trenggono - the new Indonesian Ambassador praised the proposal of developing cooperation between Indonesia and Vietnam, partly due to the rich potential of Indonesia's marine and fisheries, which can still be fully exploited. Mr. Abdi said that the Indonesia-Vietnam relationship will be tightened even further.
