The price of tra fish continues to increase (09-11-2017)
Over the past few months, farmers in provinces of Mekong River Delta have been very excited as the price of tra fish has continuously increased.
In some provinces, the price of raw fish rises from VND 26,000 to 27,500 per kilo. Specifically, in An Giang, trafish (weight from 0.8 to 0.9 kilo per head), was from VND 26,000 to 27,500 per kilo, up VND 500 to 1,000 per kilo over the previous month. In Can Tho province and Vinh Long province, the average price of tra fish sized 0.8 – 0.9 kilo per head reached the highest level of VND 28,000 per kilo, up VND 1,000 to 1,500 per kilo over the previous month.
Some farmers said that the price of tra fish began to increase from the beginning of the year. Compared with the bottom price of VND 17,000 and 18,000 per kilo at the beginning of 2016, the current price of tra fish has increased continuously from VND 21,000 VND per kilo andreaching the peak of VND 28,000 per kilo in the past days.
According to the Directorate of Fisheries (D-Fish), the reason for the increase of tra fish price in recent years is that the high demand for processing for export increase while supply is limited. Tra fish farming area in the Mekong River Delta in the last 10 months reached 5,410.3 hectares, down 0.3 per cent over the same period last year. The production in the first ten months of the year was up by 1.1 million tons.
