“Let’s clean the sea” – campaign to collect marine debris with fishing vessels (13-06-2019)
The 2019 “Let's clean the sea” campaign with the theme “Kindness to the ocean” will take place from June until August 31. The campaign aims to build hundreds of loci to regularly maintain coastal cleanup; organizing many social security activities to encourage fishermen, especially, calling for fishermen's vessels to collect waste, particularly plastic waste on the sea surface.
In the afternoon of June 4, in Hanoi, the Youth Union, the National Volunteer Center, Siam Brothers Vietnam Joint Stock Company held a press conference to introduce the 2019 “Let's clean the sea” campaign.
Vice President of Vietnam Youth Association Nguyen Kim Quy said that “Let's clean the sea” campaign is one of the key tasks of the 2019 Summer Volunteer Campaign. The campaign focuses on raising awareness of people, tourists and communities about the important role of the sea in human life; calling for the community to join hands to protect the marine environment with practical activities; At the same time, organizing social security activities to encourage disadvantaged fishermen in coastal provinces to develop the economy.
The campaign this year has the theme “Kindness to the ocean”, towards building 400 loci that regularly maintain coastal cleaning activities in 28 coastal provinces and cities; 100 thousand people participated in activities in the campaign; calling for 50 clubs and teams of volunteer groups to organize sea cleaning activities in 28 coastal provinces and cities.
Ms. Do Thi Kim Hoa - Director of the National Volunteer Center added that “Let's clean the sea” campaign this year will focus on activities aimed at change the perception of local people. Campaign aims to mobilize fishermen and provide nets to collect litter on the sea surface.
