Japan is the leading in importing Vietnamese seafood in the first 4 months (11-06-2019)
According to the General Department of Vietnam Customs, in the first 4 months of this year, Japan has become the largest seafood importer of Vietnam.
This is a positive signal for seafood export of the country in the context of other export markets having difficulties. Seafood exports to Japan remained stable, that showed the affirmation of the quality and safety of Vietnamese seafood as Japan is considered a fastidious market.
In the first 4 months of this year, the total value of Vietnamese seafood exported to Japan reached US$ 411 million, up 9.7% compared to the same period in 2018. This is even more meaningful when it can partly compensate for the decline of the other large markets, such as the US decreased by nearly 2% compared to the same period in 2018, the EU decreased by 9.6% and China 8.6%.
The opportunity for boosting Vietnamese seafood export to Japan is forecast to be even greater. In addition to traditional export products such as shrimp and marine fish, tra fish is now very popular among Japanese consumers. In the first 3 months of 2019, the value of tra fish export to this market reached nearly US$ 8.6 million, an increase of over 60% over the same period in 2018.
