Country’s seafood export grew well in May (26-06-2018)
According to statistics from the General Department of Viet Nam’s Customs, Vietnamese export seafood in the first 5 months of 2018 reached US $ 3.21 billion, up 12.4% over the same period in 2017. In particular, in May alone, export value reached US $ 765.75 million, up 11.9% over previous month and up 7.9% over May 2017.
Japan remained the leading market for seafood import of all kinds, reaching US $ 497.04 million, occupying 15.5% of the total seafood export turnover of the country, up 4.9% over the same period. The US was the second largest market in terms of value, reaching over US $ 492.14 million, accounting for 15.3%, up 1.6% year on year. China ranked third in value, accounting for 12.4%, reaching over US $ 396.54 million, up 17.2% over the same period, followed by South Korea's market, accounted for 9.8% of value, reaching US $ 313.71 million, up 19.4% compared with the same period last year.
In general, seafood exports in the first 5 months of 2018 to almost all markets grew strongly in turnover over the same period of 2017. Exports increased sharply in such markets as Cambodia (up 95.7%, reaching US $ 10.17 million); Egypt increased by 91.7% to US $ 17.4 million; Pakistani increased by 85.9%, reaching US $ 11.94 million; U.A.E increased by 64.2% to US $ 32.7 million; The Netherlands up 63% to US $ 126.16 million; Portugal increased by 60%, reaching US $ 24.37 million.
In contrast, seafood exports to Saudi Arabia, Indonesia, Czech Republic; Brazil and Denmark plunged with a decrease of 48%, 44.5%, 35.1%, 32.1% and 27.2% respectively of turnover over the same period of 2017.
