Vietnamese seafood export in the first five months of 2018 reaching US $ 3.11 billion (13-06-2018)

According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, export turnover of agro-forestry-fishery products was estimated at US $ 3.2 billion, bringing the total export value in the first 5 months of 2018 to US $ 16.5 billion, up 9.9 per cent year on year. Of which, seafood export turnover was estimated at US $ 3.12 billion.

            In May alone, Viet Nam’s seafood estimated to US $ 671 million, bringing total production of seafood exports in the first five months reached US $ 3.1 billion, up 11.1 per cent over the same period in 2017. Meanwhile, import value was at US $ 698 million, an increase of 33 per cent.

            According to the preliminary statistics of General Department of Viet Nam’s Customs, Viet Nam’s seafood export in the first four months of 2018 reached US $ 2.4 billion, increasing by 14.3 per cent compared to the same period last year. Of which, shrimp exports reached the highest turnover in the first 4 months of 2018,with US $ 999.2 million USD, up 11.9 per cent  over the same period last year.

            Tra fish has the highest export volume in the first four months of 2018, reaching 256,000 tons, valued at US $ 605 million, down by 1.6 per cent in volume but up 17.4 per cent in value compared to the same period last year. The average price of Tra fish exports increased sharply at 19.3 per cent over the same period last year.

            In terms of market, the United States, Japan, China and S.Korea are the top four importing markets for Vietnamese seafood, accounting for 53 per cent of the total seafood export value. In the first four months of 2018, the value of seafood exports to Netherland increased sharply by 60.2 per cent, followed by China (28.8 per cent), UK (27.4 per cent) and Germany (27 per cent).

            In the domestic market, the price of tra fish also increased from VND 27,000 to 29,000 VND per kilo to a new peak of VND 31,000 to 33,000 per kilo. Meanwhile, the price of black tiger shrimp was stable but lower than white leg shrimp due to the shrinkage of world shrimp prices and the yields of some countries have increased.
