Department of Agriculture and Rural development and People’s Committee of Hoai Nhon district have organized propaganda and dissemination of the Fisheries Law in 2017 (17-07-2018)
On 27 June, in Tam Quan Nam Commune, the Department of Agriculture and Rural development cooperated with People’s Committe of Hoai Nhon district to propagate and disseminate the Fisheries Law in 2017 (which is passed by the National Assembly on 21 November 2017 and will officially come into force on 01 January 2019) for leaders and 65 fishermen in 6 coastal communes.
At the workshop, fishermen were informed of several new features in the Fisheries Law in 2017, the contents of Prime Minister’s instruction on some urgent tasks and solutions to overcome the warning of the European Commission against illegal, unreported and unregulated exploitation of aquatic products; and were instructed to keep records of fisheries diary. Provincial authorities also disseminated Decree No. 17/2018 of the government, which amends and supplements a number of articles of Decree No. 67/2014 of the government on a number of fisheries development policies.
According to Mr. Tran Van Phuc, the Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural development, in comparison with 2003 Fisheries Law, the Fisheries Law in 2017 has many new points such as: the law regulating national fisheries database, including all sector data of fisheries resources, aquaculture, fishing vessels and regulation on co-management in the protection of aquatic resources. The new law also regulates the quota of fishing permits, the output allowed to exploit, regulations related to resisting illegal, unreported, unregulated fishing with regard to the European Commission’s regulation and recommendations, and the level of handling violations.
Thanks to propaganda and dissemination of the Fisheries Law in 2017 and policies of supporting fisheries development of the government, leaders and fishermen have more information to actively make investment plans for production development on the fisheries sector accordingly.
