Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province: Coordinating to share and process information of fishing vessels crossing the border and losing connection for more than 10 days at sea (27-12-2022)

On December 22, 2022, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Ba Ria-Vung Tau province sent a document to the Departments of Agriculture and Rural Development of coastal provinces and cities; Provincial Border Guard Command; 3rd and 4th Regional Coast Guard; 2nd Regional Command Navy; People's Committees of districts and cities of Long Dien; Dat Do, Vung Tau on the coordination of sharing and processing information about fishing vessels crossing the sea boundary and losing connection for more than 10 days at sea.

Accordingly, in order to effectively implement the directives on combating IUU fishing, and strictly handle violations of fishing vessel tracking equipment, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Ba Ria - Vung Tau province proposes the Departments of Agriculture and Rural Development of coastal provinces and cities to update, coordinate in monitoring, inspecting and taking measures to prevent and handle violations (if any) according to regulations.

The Provincial Border Guard Command directs the Border Guard Stations to coordinate with the Fisheries Sub-Department, the Fisheries Control Office, and the fishing port management organizations to continue monitoring, inspecting and handling according to regulations when fishing vessels return to shore or dock.

  The 3rd and 4th Regional Coast Guard; the 2nd Regional Command Navy direct the unit's patrol vessels operating at sea to assist in inspection, detection, and reporting violations against the fishing vessels on the list and at the same time require the captain of the fishing vessel to open the cruise monitoring device and return to Vietnam's waters, fully comply with regulations on combating IUU fishing.

People's Committees of districts and cities of Dat Do, Long Dien, Vung Tau coordinate to notify ship owners and request fishing boat owners to contact the captain to check, connect and turn on VMS equipment when operating at sea; contact the VMS equipment supplier company and Sub-Department of Fisheries to handle information about ships losing connection at sea in accordance with the law.

The Sub-department of Fisheries summarizes the results of handling fishing vessels that have lost connection signals for more than 10 days, fishing vessels that have crossed the border at sea; advise the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development to report to the Directorate of Fisheries and the IUU Steering Committee of Ba Ria-Vung Tau province until the case is over.
