Ninh Binh: Applying Science and Technology for Three (3) Crops Per Year in White Leg Shrimp (30-11-2020)

The Ninh Binh fishing industry has been developing strongly in recent years. The white leg shrimp farming in the coastal area of Kim Son district is having great potential for growth. The Kim Son district's aquaculture area is 3.315 ha while the area for advanced extensive black tiger shrimp farming is 1.985 ha, the area for semi-intensive and intensive white leg shrimp farming is 130 ha and 1.200 ha for clam farming.
Ninh Binh: Applying Science and Technology for Three (3) Crops Per Year in White Leg Shrimp

Mr. Pham Van Hai - Head of Kim Son Fisheries Station said that Yen Khanh, Ninh Binh is a province in the North of our country affected by humid subtropical climate, divided into four seasons: Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter. Temperatures are very low in winter, under 10oC and persistently high temperatures accompanied by rain and long storms in summer have had a major impact on intensive white shrimp farming in particular and the fisheries in general in Kim Son district.

Currently, aquaculture in general and intensive white leg shrimp farming in the coastal area of Kim Son district can only be carried out on the basis of 2 crops/year, beginning in April and ending in November. Each year, this has limited the key strengths of Kim Son district both the output of aquatic products produced and the economic efficiency that are not commensurate with the regional strengths.

Tan Van Co., Ltd. has applied advanced science and technology, used the form of intensive white shrimp farming in the roofs in combination with the application of Biofloc technology, implemented the process of farming without water exchange, fast water to cultivate white leg shirmp for 3 crops/year. The company has carried out farming white leg shrimp with a density of 150 - 170 shrimp/m2 in 06 ponds in 2018 and 2019. After 2 years of implementation, shrimp production obtained over 90 tons/03 crops/year which encouraged high economic efficiency to the company. This lead to increase income for employees, promote intensive white shrimp farming to develop and extende the region's potential and strengths in the coastal alluvial area of Kim Son district.

In order for shrimp hatcheries to achieve 3 crops per year with high productivity in the coastal areas of the Kim Son district, it is important to pay attention from all levels and related fields to carry out research in order to provide a full technological process suitable for the conditions of the region, to plan concentrated shrimp farming areas, to combine product consumption, to apply new advanced science and technology. All of this would promote the sustainable development of intensive white shrimp farming.
