Seaculture development cooperation in Phu Yen

Mr. Pham Dai Duong, Deputy Secretary of the provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the provincial People's Committee; Tran Huu The, Standing Committee Member of Provincial Party Committee, Vice Chairman of Provincial People's Committee; leaders of departments, branches and coastal localities in the province received the delegation.

According to the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, cage aquaculture in the sea in Phu Yen was established in 1990 and up to now has developed quite strongly with more than 1,000 hectares of water surface in which main species such as lobster and sea fish are farmed. There are about 99,000 aquaculture cages in the lagoon in the coastal areas. Lobster farming has brought about high economic efficiency, but this development is not sustainable because it is not under planning, leading to polluted farming areas.

According to the provincial plan, by 2020, the sea aquaculture area in the province is about 1,650 hectares, concentrated mainly in Song Cau and Tuy An districts; Lobster production is about 950 tons and marine fish is about 1,000 tons. Coastal areas in Phu Yen are setting detailed plans for their farming areas in order to stabilize production, limit environmental pollution and towards sustainability.

At the meeting, the Vietnam Seaculture Association provided information on development trends, market demands and solutions for marine economic development. According to the Vietnam Seaculture Association, Phu Yen is one of the localities with a special position, converging potentials and strengths in the development of the marine industry. Therefore, the association wants to cooperate with Phu Yen to develop a strategy for raising industrial seaculture in the coming time.

The Viet Nam Seaculture Association has made several proposals for cooperation such as surveys and assessments of marine aquaculture in Phu Yen; planning and development solutions; plans and solutions for environmental protection; model building and transfer; training and technical transfer...

Speaking at the meeting, Chairman of the provincial People's Committee Pham Dai Duong highly appreciated and agreed to proposal of cooperation in developing the strategy of industrial seaculture of the Viet Nam Seaculture Association in the coming time. Mr. Pham Dai Duong asked DARD and relevant departments to develop plans and consult the provincial People's Committee on the contents proposed by the Viet Nam Seaculture Association.

The province will create the best conditions for organizations, individuals and enterprises to cooperate in developing the strategy of industrial seaculture in the future in Phu Yen. Chairman of the provincial People's Committee Pham Dai Duong suggested that the Vietnam Seaculture Association assist the province in training and technology transfer in coastal aquaculture.
