Conservating aquatic resources (06-03-2019)

Recently, the protection and development of fisheries resources in Quang Ninh province has achieved many positive results, helping increase the awareness of people, especially fishermen. The use of prohibited fishing gears has been gradually controlled and prevented.
Conservating aquatic resources

Quang Ninh province’s water areas are considered as one of the high biodiversity areas with 315 fish species and 450 mollusks, with specific ecosystems such as coral reefs, sea grass beds and mangrove forests, etc. However, the old methods of exploitation has exerted pressure on resources and the environment, degrading some ecosystems. From that situation, in order to protect aquatic resources, prevent acts of harming the marine environment, the province has issued many documents to direct departments, localities and agencies to tighten state management. The work of patrolling and handling violations in fisheries exploitation has been implemented synchronously and drastically by agencies, especially after the Directive No. 18-CT / TU dated September 1, 2017 issued by the Provincial Standing Committee.

In parallel with the handling of violations, propaganda has been increasingly promoted to help fishermen understand the national and provincial regulations in the exploitation and protection of aquatic resources. Localities such as Mong Cai, Ha Long, Cam Pha, Quang Yen, Hai Ha and Dam Ha commune regularly investigate, survey and gather information while raising awareness of fishermen in the area. The whole province has signed 2,947 commitments between fishermen, owners of fishing vessels, households, etc. with local authorities about not to buy, sell, and use prohibited fishing gear in fisheries activities.

The regenerating aquatic resources are increasingly receiving the attention of departments, sectors and localities. In 2018, the whole province stocked over 3 million shrimp and fish seeds of all kinds on the natural water environment. Projects on protection and development of fisheries resources have been implemented, such as: Detailed planning of Co To - Dao Tran marine protected areas; implementing the task of preserving genetic resources, breeding aquatic species of high economic value; applying science and technology in restoring coral reef and seagrass ecosystems, etc.

With these practical actions, aquatic resources in the province have shown signs of recovery. This is a clear change in the awareness of the community, contributing to preserving and regenerating aquatic resources.
