Coordination of Aquatic Resource Stocking in The Gulf of Tonkin in China Between Vietnam and China (28-05-2021)

On May 10, 2021, at the mouth of Bac Luan River, Dongxing City, Guangxi, China, a stocking activity to regenerate aquatic resources in the Gulf of Tonkin took place by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development of Vietnam, The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs of China, People's Committee of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region of China convened on the basis of a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in regenerative stocking and protection of aquatic resources in the Gulf of Tonkin between the Ministry of Agriculture of the two countries.

However, because the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development of Vietnam was unable to attend the ceremony due to the COVID-19 epidemic, Mr. Phung Duc Tien, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development of Vietnam, delivered a speech from the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development of Vietnam's headquarters. Attending the ceremony at the Ministry's headquarters were Mr. Tran Dinh Luan - Director of the General Department of Fisheries and representatives of leaders of the Department of International Cooperation, the Seafood Research Institute and units under the Directorate of Fisheries.

Deputy Minister Phung Duc Tien, speaking at the ceremony, emphasized the spirit of collaboration and friendship between the Vietnamese and Chinese ministries of agriculture in the fields of agriculture and fisheries, including the Fisheries Cooperation Agreement in  The TreatGulf of Tonkin was signed in 2000 by the governments of the two countries and came into effect on June 30, 2004. At the same time, inform another side of Vietnam's achievements in the fields of development and protection. In recent years, there has been an increase in the development of aquatic resources.

Deputy Minister Phung Duc Tien expressed the expectation that, in the spirit of friendly cooperation, the Vietnamese and Chinese Ministry of Agriculture would continue to have effective integrated collaboration in the areas of agriculture and fishery in order to contribute to tightening the strong traditional relationship between the two countries.

At the stocking ceremony to regenerate aquatic resources, the Chinese side was chaired and attended by Mr. Du Khang Chan, Vice Minister of Agriculture and Rural Affairs of China, and Mr. Ly Ban, Vice Chairman of the Government of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.  On the Vietnamese side, there was Mr. Nong Duc Lai, representative of the Embassy of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam in China. The total number of aquatic breeds released at the ceremony was 56 million varieties (shrimp and marine fish).

The two nations' Ministries of Agriculture anticipate that, as a result of this action, they would continue to coordinate breeding activities to regenerate aquatic resources in the Gulf of Tonkin in the coming years, thereby contributing to the protection and restoration of aquatic resources in the Gulf of Tonkin.
