The fisheries sector concentrates into 3 key strategies

Deputy Prime Minister Mr. Trinh Dinh Dung has just signed Decision No. 50/2018/QD-TTg regulating the main aquaculture products. List of key aquaculture products include: Black tiger shrimp, white leg shrimp and tra fish.

Regarding the selection of these three objects, Mr. Tran Dinh Luan, Deputy Director of Directorate of Fisheries said: “Through many seminars and consultations of managers, we have proposed to include these three objects into the list of key farming objects for export. These three objects were also defined by the Prime Minister in prime farming products”.

In fact, these are also key items in Vietnam's fishery export in 2018. Fishery export turnover was estimated at about US $ 9 billion, up 8.4% in 2018. In particular, export of tra fish reached US $ 2.26 billion, up 26.4%. Shrimp export was US $ 3.58 billion, (white leg shrimp was US $2.48 billion, black tiger shrimp was US $ 810 million). Thus, the total export value of these three products accounted for nearly 65% of Vietnam's total fishery export volume.

Mr. Nguyen Hoai Nam, Deputy Secretary General of Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP) said that for the first time, the export of tra fish products exceeded the figure of US $ 2 billion, with a growth of over 26%. That is the achievement in the context of many difficulties in the market.

To achieve this, Vietnam has spent many years of branding and improving its quality, processing, etc and Vietnam is now in the top 5 countries that has the largest supply fishery in the world.

In the past 10 years, the export market has not been stable, besides the advantages, there were still many challenges, making the system from state management agencies to the community enterprises and farmers must transform consciously. For example, as a food safety issue, this is not a new story, but it is clear that if Vietnam does not maintain and do better or improve, we will lose all the results got from 10 years of efforts.

Therefore, in the coming years, there will be challenges, including programs in EU and the US on import control. It will continue to be the highlights that businesses together with the State agency must join hands more to overcome. When surpassing, it means that Vietnam's competitiveness will be improved.
