The Oceans and Fisheries Partnership (USAID Oceans) has been supporting the Southeast Asian Fisheries Development Center (SEAFDEC) and member countries to enhance their capacity to include gender considerations in fisheries planning and management. With the recent approval of SEAFDEC’s gender policy and strategy, there is a need to build SEAFDEC and member countries’ capacity to effectively implement gender-sensitive approaches. Each SEAFDEC Technical Department has identified a fisheries technologist to be a “Gender Focal Person.” Similarly, each member country has a gender focal person, the majority of whom are also members of USAID Oceans technical working group for human welfare and gender equity.

National Workshop on Building an Action Plan to Reduce Ocean Plastic Waste for the Fisheries Sector28-11-2019

On October 20, 2019 in Da Nang City, the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) in collaboration with the Directorate of Fisheries (D-Fish-MARD organized a national workshop on building an action plan on fisheries sector to reduce ocean plastic waste under the project “Conservation of marine turtle breeding areas with community participation in Vietnam” with financial support from the US Fisheries and Wildlife Service Agency (U.S FWS). The main content of the workshop was a discussion on the orientation to build an action plan to reduce ocean plastic waste for the fisheries sector in the period of 2020 - 2025.

It increased by 4.08 percent compared to that in the same period of 2018; the productivity was from 10 to 15 tons per hectare.

“Let’s clean the sea” – campaign to collect marine debris with fishing vessels13-06-2019

The 2019 “Let's clean the sea” campaign with the theme “Kindness to the ocean” will take place from June until August 31. The campaign aims to build hundreds of loci to regularly maintain coastal cleanup; organizing many social security activities to encourage fishermen, especially, calling for fishermen's vessels to collect waste, particularly plastic waste on the sea surface.
