The project of high-tech agricultural zone for shrimp farming in Bac Lieu approved (30-09-2016)

The Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc and leaders of several ministries had a meeting with the leader of Bac Lieu province’s people’s committee on its socio-economic development in Hanoi on 20th September.

Reporting to the Prime Minister, Chairman of Bac Lieu province’s people’s committee Duong Thanh Trung said Bac Lieu has a strength for aquaculture development, especially development of brackish water shrimp farming. The province’s annual shrimp production reached about 105 thousand tons, worth VND11.5 trillion (US$500 million) with many super-intensive high-tech farming model. Besides, Bac Lieu is one of the aquatic seed production center of the Mekong Delta and in the country, with seed production reaching 25 billion / year, accounting for 50% of the region’s seed output and 19.23% of the country’s. Shrimp industry has made great contributions to economic and social development of the province, income increasing and jobs creating for people.

Identifying its strength and potential for aquaculture development, in the coming time, Bac Lieu aims to become the country's largest shrimp farming area. To achieve this, Bac Lieu Province has proposed to the Prime Minister to early give solution to respond to climate change and approve the project of high-tech agricultural zone for shrimp farming in Bac Lieu with an area of ​​200 ha in the phase I.

Addressing at the meeting, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc highly appreciated the efforts of the Party, government and people of Bac Lieu Province in the socio-economic development over time and the province's proposals relating to aquaculture development. The Prime Minister agreed to the planning of high-tech agricultural zones for shrimp farming in Bac Lieu and asked the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development along with the relevant ministries to support Bac Lieu in implementing the project.
