Lang Co fishermen and functional forces coordinated to release a precious hawksbill trapped in Lang Co fishermen’ net into the sea. (28-08-2019)

On August 8th , at about 3:30, Mr. Minh Nguyen, a 48 year – old man living in Dong Duong, Lang Co Town, Phu Loc District, while fishing on the sea about 1 nautical mile from Lang Co beach, accidentally caught an individual like sea turtles, weighing 11.2 kg.

After being brought to ashore and reported to Lang Co Border Guard Station (Border Guards Command of Thua Thien - Hue Province), Bac Hai Van Protective - Forest Management Board, this sea turtle was identified as a hawksbill, whose scientific name is Eretmochelys imbricate - a species of sea turtle belonging to the Chichoniidae family. This individual of hawksbill has been a rare and precious animal in the Vietnam Red Book.

At about 7 am on the same day, this hawksbill was released into the sea.

According to Thanh Nien newspaper, from the beginning of the year until now, Lang Co sea and Lang Co lagoon (Lap An lagoon) have constantly appeared many rare, precious sea turtles. Then they are handed over to the agencies by fishermen to be prepared for their process of returning the natural environment.
