Agro – forestry - fishery export value up 25.9 per cent in the first month of 2018 (08-02-2018)

According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, exports of agriculture, forestry and fishery products in January registered a positive growth with export value estimating at US$ 3.09 billion, an increase of 25.9 per cent compared to the same period last year.

Of this figure, the export value of the main agricultural produce was estimated at US $ 1.68 billion, increased by 34.1 per cent and that of main forestry products was estimated at US $ 745 million, rising by 18.5 per cent compared to the same period last year. Meanwhile, exports of seafood reached at US $ 560 million, up 15.6 per cent over the same period last year.

Among the main agricultural produce, rice, rubber, coffee and cashew nut enjoyed the strongest growth both in terms of volume and value. Particularly, rice export in January was estimated at 524 thousand tons, fetching US $ 249 million, increasing by 56.5 per cent in terms of volume and 74.2 per cent in terms of value compared to the same period last year.

Meanwhile, coffee export was estimated at 173 thousand tons, valued at US $ 338 million, increasing by 24 per cent in volume and 7 per cent in value.

Rubber registered the strongest growth rate with export volume reaching 181 thousand tons, fetching US $ 204 million, increasing by 94.5 per cent in volume and 14 per cent in value. Next was cashew, with export volume reaching 25 thousand tons, valued at US $ 256 million, up 39.9 per cent in volume and 56.5 per cent in value compared to the same period last year.

Besides, exports of vegetable and fruits continued increasing with export value in January reaching US $ 321 million, increasing by nearly 37 per cent compared to the same period last year. In 2017 China, Japan, the U.S and S. Korea were the four leading importers of Vietnamese vegetable and fruits.

Regarding seafood, tra fish raw material price in Me Kong Delta continued remaining high due to limitation in supply source. In addition, shrimp raw material in the first month of this year tended to increase compared to the previous month due to high demand of consumers and plants.
