Ho Chi Minh City: A Budget of Nearly 7.5 Billion VND Has Been Approved for Environmental Monitoring in Aquaculture from 2021 to 2025 (19-04-2021)

To promptly prevent unsafe aquatic environments, minimize damage caused by the environment, and aim to develop sustainable and efficient aquaculture. For the years 2021-2025, Ho Chi Minh City's People's Committee has released a proposal for environmental monitoring and alert in aquaculture. Ho Chi Minh City will invest approximately 7.5 billion VND on aquaculture monitoring the aquaculture environment in the period of 2021-2025 according to the programme.

As a result, Ho Chi Minh City will conduct environmental monitoring in key farming regions for key cultured species with high yield and economic value, such as brackish shrimp (black tiger shrimp, white leg shrimp), and molluscs. With the aim of monitoring the aquaculture environment in order to assist management and production direction, and to quickly advise and guide steps to prevent the aquatic environment from being unhealthy, reducing losses caused by the climate, in order to grow aquaculture in a safe and successful manner, specifically:

Monitoring will be held for brackish water shrimp in Can Gio district (Ly Nhon commune, An Thoi Dong commune, Tam Thon Hiep commune, Binh Khanh commune), Nha Be district (Hiep Phuoc commune, Nhon Duc commune), Binh Chanh district. (Phong Phu commune, Da Phuoc commune, Binh Loi commune).

Mollusc monitoring will take place in Can Gio district's concentrated mollusc culture areas, which include Can Thanh town, Long Hoa commune, Ly Nhon commune, and Thanh An commune.

Freshwater farming areas, focusing on monitoring in Binh Chanh district (Tan Nhut commune), Cu Chi district (Tan Thong Hoi commune, Phuoc Hiep commune) and Thu Duc city (Phu Huu ward).

The budget for the implementation of the above tasks has been approved by the city nearly VND 7.5 billion in the period 2021-2025. Fisheries Department is the unit assigned to implement the plan of environmental monitoring and warning in aquaculture.

Results of environmental monitoring and warnings are sent by the Fisheries Department to the registered phone numbers to receive information. In case the result of water source is polluted, coordinate with the Department of Environment Police to determine the cause and handle it according to the provisions of law.
