Strict management of super intensive shrimp farming in Tra Vinh province

So far, the total area of shrimp farming in brackish and saltwater areas is more than 24 thousand hectares; including 7,000 ha of intensive and semi-intensive shrimp farming. The annual production of farmed shrimp reaches about 35,000 tons. From 2017, the province implemented the model of super-intensive white leg shrimp farming with nearly 100 households implemented on an area of 150 ha. As a result of the first crop, this model produced a yield of 50 to 55 tons / ha, a profit of about 2 billion VND / ha, opening up a new development direction for shrimp farming in brackish and salt waters in Tra Vinh province. The goal set by the province by 2020 is to mobilize more than VND 5,000 billion to invest in developing sustainable shrimp farming towards high technology, with construction planning on irrigation, transportation and electricity production; investment in infrastructure, strengthening management capacity and supporting production development for farmers and incentives to attract enterprises to produce and process.

However, in the past two years, the number of farmers and the area of intensive shrimp farming in the province have been increasing spontaneously; many ponds are built between semi-intensive and intensive shrimp farming areas, and have no technical infrastructure, so they are easily exposed to risks of water pollution, disease outbreaks and widespread spread. Shrimp farmers hope that the authorities will public provincial plans for each shrimp farming area in the province soon. At the same time, more training courses should be conducted to improve the production level for shrimp farmers. In order to develop high-tech shrimp farming, it is necessary to have a network of technical collaborators to transfer science and technology, control and manage epidemics, monitor the environment, and timely informs farmers when epidemics occur to avoid risks in the production process.
