This is forecast based on statistics of the country’s seafood export value in November 2017 with export turnover reaching US $ 733 million. This made up the figure in the first eleven months of 2017 reached US $ 7.6 million, an increase of 18 per cent compared to the same period last year.
According to the Viet Nam Customs, as of 15th December, the country’s seafood export value reached US $ 7.95 billion
In the first eleven months of 2017, tra fish export value amounted to US $ 1.6 billion, increasing by 5 per cent compared to the same period last year. This figure in 2017 is expected at US $ 1.8 billion, an increase of 4 per cent compared to the previous year.
Also, tuna export value reached US $ 541 billion, up 19 per cent over the same period last year and expected to reach US $ 600 billion in 2017.
Meanwhile, squid and octopus export value fetched US $ 565, increasing by 48 per cent. Experts forecast this item would reach more than US $ 600 million, up 37 per cent compared to the previous year.
EU market saw a slight reduction in growth rate in recent months. According to VASEP, seafood export to EU would continue reducing in the end of this year due to being affected by EU warnings on IUU.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, the country’s aquaculture production in November reached 345 thousand tons, bringing the figure in the first eleven months of 2017 reached 3.51 billion tons, up 8 per cent year on year.
Additionally, tra fish farming area in the Me Kong Delta Region in the first eleven months of 2017 saw an increase of 2 per cent compared to the same period last year, reaching 5,822 ha which brought about 1.2 billion tons of fish. Also, shrimp farming area reached 562 thousand tons, gaining 237.6 thousand tons of shrimp.
Regarding capture fisheries, tuna fishing in three provinces of Binh Dinh, Khanh Hoa and Phu Yen reached 17,390 tons. Of which, tuna fishing production in Binh Dinh province recorded the highest of 9,700 tons.
