Recently, to stop Illegal, Unreported and Unregulated (IUU) fishing, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Kien Giang province has published information on illegal fishing vessels.

The list of fishing vessels and owners involve in IUU fishing on foreign waters will be summarized and published on the 25th of every month on public media by the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Kien Giang province. This is one of the strong moves of Kien Giang province’s efforts to overcome the "yellow card" warning for Vietnamese capture fisheries products placed by the Commission of Europe.

The list of violated fishing vessels were published on mass media. In case of violations, the competent authorities will not issue fishing license for illegal vessels, nor allow the building of new fishing vessels for vessel owners involved. Confiscated fishing vessels will be temporarily suspended transfer ownership and deprived fishing licenses for 06 months.

Along with public announcement of violations of fishing vessels and fishing vessel owners, Kien Giang province has implemented synchronous solutions to implement Directive No. 45/CT-TTg dated December 13th2017 by the Prime Minister on a number of tasks and solutions to remove the warning of the European Commission against illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing, to maintain the prestige and brand of Vietnamese seafood. In addition, offshore fishing vessel owners and captains were required to sign a commitment not to fish illegally; Make a catch declaration and install MCS equipment according to regulations. MCS device must be turned on 24/24 and connected to the shore station of Kien Giang Fisheries Department.
