Mr. Tran Dinh Luan, Director General of the Directorate of Fisheries, shared the following information: The Directorate of Fisheries has a 62-year history of establishment and growth. Total output during the time (2016-2020) in comparison to the previous period (2010-2015), seafood production has increased by 23%, export turnover has increased by 28%, and total seafood output is now 8.4 million tons, the export turnover is 8.5 billion USD.
According to Mr. Luan, the fisheries sector's role in the past period has achived encouraging achievements. Specialized organizations, especially fishermen, actively participate in the exploitation and protection of aquatic resources. The Prime Minister recently approved the Vietnam Fisheries Development Strategy to 2030, with a vision to 2045. The strategy has set a target of a seafood export turnover of 14-16 billion USD by 2030. The strategy also sets out broad directions and strategies that apply to all provinces. One noteworthy point is that the fisheries sector has provided an orientation to gradually reduce exploitation performance in the coming century, in order to align exploitation capability with aquatic resource reserves as well as restore and regenerate resources, increase aquaculture production and concentrate on expanding marine farming areas. In the coming century, improve the growth and restoration of marine resources by improving protection and expanding the protected area.
Since 2017, the Directorate of Fisheries has signed a memorandum of understanding on the release and protection of marine resources with the Central Buddhist Church of Vietnam. According to the regulations on quantity and sequence, the Directorate of Fisheries has provided guidelines on the activities of releasing fish for regenerating aquatic resources. Since then, the provinces' Branches and Buddhist Churches have implemented the movement of releasing seeds to release and regenerating aquatic resources annually, successfully and practically every year, creating a ripple effect for all citizens, Buddhists all over the world.
The release of the breeding stock has ensured that the fingerlings would have the best chance of survival once released. This activity would raise awareness of the importance of protecting fisheries resources and maintaining ecological balance with other natural resources in order to preserve the best possible climate and exploitation potential.
Mr. Nguyen Xuan Hoang, Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Ho Chi Minh City, highly appreciated the inspection efforts of the Directorate of Fisheries, Department of Fisheries of Ho Chi Minh City. Investigate and advise the City People's Committee, which has agreed to develop a strategy for stocking and regenerating aquatic resources across the city, not only in the coastal areas but also the river, and canal systems in the city.
According to Ms. Vo Thi Mong Thu, Director of Ho Chi Minh City's Fisheries Department, delegates and individuals received a total of 10,000 black groupers and 20 seabass (from mobilization funds) on this occasion. People dropped into the sea at Ganh Rai Bay, Can Gio District, Ho Chi Minh City.
This is an important activity for restoring aquatic resources, raising awareness and accountability of organizations and individuals involved in natural resource protection, and developing socioeconomic development in the community. Every year, the Fisheries Department works with other departments to organize socialization services in order to release a variety of aquatic breeds and preserve and regenerate aquatic resources. In addition to regenerative breeding operations, the Department has collaborated with inspection forces to monitor and deal with violations, such as harvesting and the use of prohibited nets in fishing activities.
