Development of Aquaculture according to the standards and meet the market’s requirements (27-08-2019)

From the beginning of 2019, Can Tho city continues developing aquaculture in the sustainable way, ensuring food safety and environmental sanitation. Accordingly, the agricultural sector promotes the construction of aquaculture areas applying the standards such as GAP, ASC, SQF, BMP, Metro GAP... in order to provide  the products with high quality, serve consumer and export’s demand, increase product’s value, improving the production efficiency.  In currently, the total area for farming aquatic species with food safety products, reached ​​city’s standard is more than 236 ha, including 222 ha adapted VietGAP standard and 13.75 ha meets BAP and ASC standard. The city  is also developing a plan of “Supporting aquaculture facilities in Can Tho to apply Good Aquaculture Practices (VietGAP)" in 2019. By the end of July, 2019, the total area for farming aquatic species of Can Tho was 4,633 ha, surpassed 12% in comparison with the same period of last year, reached 55% of year plan; harvested 1,972 ha, with 106,747 tons, equal to 89% of the same period in 2018, reached 54% of plan. In particular, the Tra fish farming area is 618 ha, equivalent to the same period of last year, reached 82% of plan; harvested 282 ha with output of 85,653 tons, equal to 84% with the same period of last year, reached 52% of plan; Tra fish’s price fluctuates in the range of 20,000-21,000 VND/kg.
