The conference of “An International Exhibition and Conference on Vietnam’s Aquaculture” took place On August 15, 2019 in Can Tho City. This was an opportunity for domestic and foreign firms to introduce new technologies and improvement for the fisheries sector from production to processing and packaging.

Ms. Rose Chitanuwat - Project Manager of UBM Asia Group stated in the conference: Vietnam’s Government has supported and facilitated to promote the Fisheries Sustainability by different policies and mechanisms.

Vietnam ranked as the fourth-largest producer of seafood from aquaculture, only behind China, Indonesia and India.

The aquaculture output reached nearly 2 million tons in the first half of this year, (up 7.0% compared to the same period of last year). Notably, shrimp production hit nearly 300,000 tons. Tra fish production reached nearly 700 thousand tons (as 107.5% compared to the same period of last year). In addition, tilapia, mollusks, lobster and marine fish also achieved positive results.

Dr. Nguyen Viet Thang – President of Vietnam Fisheries Society (VINAFIS) said: The Fisheries Sector is currently being identified as one of Vietnam's key economic sectors, contributes 3.43% of total GDP national and 23.75% of Vietnam's Agriculture GDP. However, the fisheries sector is still facing many difficulties from objective and subjective, such as climate change, saline intrusion or prolonged drought, mainly impact to farmers.

 “An International Exhibition and Conference on Vietnam’s Aquaculture” took place in Can Tho city from October 16-18, bringing Vietnam's aquaculture products to meet the customer’s requirements. It is hoped that the aquaculture develops in a sustainable way with high economic efficiency and advanced technology, ensure no bad impact on the environment and society, Mr.Thang said.
