Mr. Nhu Van Can, Director of Aquaculture Department (Directorate of Fisheries) said, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has set a target to develop the tra fish industry in 2019, thereby trying to achieve 1.51 million tons of output, up 6.6% year on year, export turnover of about US$ 2.4 billion, up 12% compared to 2018. To achieve this goal, the Ministry of Agriculture and Development Rural development suggests that localities continue to bring into play their potentials and advantages in producing tra fish to adapt to climate change; Focusing on investing in developing tra fish in depth to improve economic efficiency and sustainable development.  Currently, many localities have strongly developed export tra fish farming, bringing high economic efficiency such as provinces of An Giang, Dong Thap, Tien Giang, Can Tho City, etc. Mr. Tran Anh Thu, Vice Chairman of An Giang Provincial People's Committee said, the price of tra fish farming in the Mekong Delta now ranges from 22,000 VND to 23,000 VND / kg, while the selling price is from 29,000 VND to 30,000 VND / kg. That price is profitable for farmers, processing enterprises and importers. However, for the sustainable development of tra fish, it is necessary to quickly invest in the current shortage of breeding stock.

In addition, there should be a mechanism to control the investment of spontaneous fish farming, avoiding the risk of excess material, falling prices. Along with that, it must promote the expansion of consumer markets, in which enterprises play a key role. At present, the tra fish industry has a strong linkage, of which, the products are increasingly diversified with more than 80 items, including high value products. Businesses have also overcome the standards set by developed markets. Also in 2019, Vietnamese tra fish products continue to have many opportunities to boost consumption in markets around the world. In particular, in the United States, together with anti-dumping taxes are reduced, Vietnam has met the requirements of the USDA inspection program for Siluriformes fish, including catfish, which are good signals for many businesses to increase exports to this market. In addition, businesses can increase the market share of tra fish exports to the US by taking advantage of the US-China trade war.

In the EU market, the EU-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement is expected to be in effect in this year. It will help increase Vietnam's tra fish export opportunities to this block thanks to reduce import and export taxes.

China continues to bring expectations to tra fish industry as it is a large market, with high demand and Vietnamese tra fish products also benefit the reduced import tax from this import market. It is known that in 2018, the commercial price of tra fish was about 29,000 VND / kg, 4,000 VND / kg higher than the average price in 2017. Particularly, in October 2018, Tra fish price reached the peak of 35,000- 36,000 VND / kg. Thanks to the high price, the tra fish export turnover in 2018 reached US$ 2.26 billion, up 26.5% over the previous year.
