The promotion and development of black tiger shrimp in the form of ecological farming is a way to be developed by many businesses and shrimp farmers in Vietnam.

The concept of ecological shrimp has appeared in Vietnam since 2015; ecological shrimp is a delicious, nutritious product and especially contributes to protecting and preserving the farming environment.

In 2018, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has approved the Project of Building a model of semi-intensive black tiger shrimp farming, ensuring food safety. The objective of the project is to develop a model of sustainable black tiger shrimp farming without abuse of antibiotics, ensuring food safety, linking between producers and businesses, improving economic efficiency and product value. According to the project, 24 models of semi-intensive black tiger shrimp farming will be built to ensure food safety with scale of 5 ha/model meeting the technical criteria: productivity in the lower region of over 1 ton/ha, productivity in medium and high tide areas is over 2 tons/ha; harvest size is from 40 counts/kg; survival rate above 60%. According to the Directorate of Fisheries, Vietnam is maintaining its strength in developing black tiger shrimp, especially Vietnam has the advantage of certified ecological black tiger shrimp, organic black tiger shrimp that has been positioned in the market. Recently, in the market orientation of shrimp industry, in addition to raising white leg shrimp, applying intensive and super intensive farming methods, the ecological black tiger shrimp, shrimp - forest, shrimp - rice and extensive farmed shrimp are strength of shrimp industry.

Choice of the future

While shrimp farming is more and more difficult due to the increasing pollution of the environment, the waste in shrimp farming process has not been thoroughly treated, the exported shrimp batches have been also found chemical residues excess allowable threshold ... shrimp farming in ecological form is a solution that needs more attention. It is because ecological shrimp has many advantages from product quality to environmental protection issues and especially favored by many markets. Associate Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Sanh, Mekong Delta Development Research Institute said that the environment under the forest canopy is so clean that the shrimp are less affected by diseases. Farmers do not have to pay for drugs or food, so their profit is also higher. Of course, the shrimp's price is also higher than other farmed shrimp.

Ca Mau is one of the localities with the potential to develop shrimp farming in general and especially ecological shrimp farming areas. Currently, the province is certified by international organizations for ecological shrimp products with a farming area of ​​over 11,000 hectares; the province is striving to 2020 to build certification for all areas of local shrimp - forest to 30,000 ha.
