Aquaculture is determined as one of the most important economic sectors within the local agricultural restructuring. Tam Diep has commanded communes, especially localities that have competitive advantages of aquaculture development such as Yen Binh, Tan Binh, and Yen Son. In addition, it invested a lot of money in infrastructure system improvement and natural ponds renovation.

It is also necessary for the Government to implement the policies with aims to support people towards the development of aquaculture, at the same low-lying areas with the intensive or semi-intensive method, combine a fish crop with a rice one and link the family houses to the union that focuses on aquaculture.

Furthermore, in order to support localities in developing aquaculture, Tam Diep also directed functional divisions and departments to closely coordinate with other ones to carry out many projects which have the aim to raise their small species and train the locals about technology. For the past 5 years, the city has organized 12 technical training courses on aquaculture with 480 participants.

From the incentives and support of the city, many communes have actively applied the intensive and semi-intensive method on many animals, the application of scientific and technical advances into raising and planting. Besides, paying attention to disease prevention for aquaculture breeds and cleaning ponds are absolutely essential. Thereby, the area of aquaculture tends to experience sustainable development in the future.

In 2017, the total area of aquaculture in the city will reach over 720 hectares, an increase of 200 hectares compared to 2013. There are 10 models of intensive fish farming models in Tan Binh, Yen Binh and Yen Son communes with fish species which were products such as Black carving, copy hybrid, unisexual tilapia.

Regarding the real development of aquaculture in Tam Diep, which contribute to raising income for people, the city has had policies to support and develop fisheries.

In details, people have paid attention to coordinate with competent authorities to well manage the quality of breeds, renovate and sanitize ponds and lakes; Management of cultured seasons, raising species and farming methods are also taken into consideration to suit the conditions of each locality.

It is noticeable for locals to take advantage of the support from competent Authorities to invest in infrastructure for product development through the projects, which have been implemented; people also need to strengthen the transfer of technical advances through technical training of aquaculture and create some models that are suitable to the conditions of each region and being able to replicate.
