The master plan for developing Viet Nam's brackish shrimp industry to 2030 has been approved by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.

The objective of the project is to develop the brackish shrimp sector into a modern, synchronous and efficient industry through the attraction of investment, application of scientific and technological advances into the whole chain of production, processing and consumption in order to improve productivity, production and commercial value of shrimp products, contributing to the successful implementation of the National Action Plan for Developing Vietnamese shrimp industry by 2030.

The project focused on developing two species of black tiger shrimp (Penaeus monodon) and white leg shrimp (Litopenaeus vannamei) in the coastal provinces and cities which have natural brackish water resources suitable for growth and development of brackish water shrimp.

According to the project, by 2030, the brackish shrimp industry in Viet Nam sets target to stabilize the area of ​​shrimp culture of 750,000 hectares with the output of shrimp reaching over 1.3 million tons, of which farming area of black tiger shrimp is 600,000 hectares, production yield is 550,000 tons and 150,000 hectares of white leg shrimp farming area, with the output of 750,000 tons. The brackish water shrimp sector in Viet Nam will be actively domesticated, selected to domestically produce 100% of white leg shrimp and black tiger shrimp bloodstocks serve for domestic production. By 2030, the total export value of brackish water shrimp reaches over US $ 12 billion.
