Ca Mau continues to develop the model offorest combined with ecological shrimp farming

The trend of using organic and ecological products of the world market is increasing and Ca Mau – a province with strong shrimp farming can completely meet this demand. This is the information from the workshop held in the morning of 22 Aug in Ca Mau.

Up to now, the area of shrimp and forest of Ca Mau certified by international organizations is approximately 19,000 hectares with nearly 4,200 households getting certification such as Naturland, EU, Silva, shrimp… This is a type of sustainable production because there is no use of chemicals in the process of culture, not only helping raise income for farmers but also contributing to the protection and development of mangrove forests.

Ca Mau is also the first experimental locality in the country to pay for the forest environmental service since 2016 at 500,000 VND/ hectare per year for contracted households. This source of income helps farmers improve their responsibility to protect the forests and maintain the forest environment for ecological shrimp farming. With the achieved results, Ca Mau aims to maintain the area of forest combined with shrimp farming of about 80,000 hectares and the output of 15,000 tons per year in the coming time.
