Tra fish price is forecast to remain high in 2018 (08-06-2018)
In the first five months of this year, Tra fish production was estimated at 485,000 tons, up 3 per cent over the same period last year.
Some major provinces like Dong Thap produced 162,000 tons, up 8 per cent; An Giang gained 125.000 tons, up 9 per cent; Can Tho 74,000 tons, up 27 per cent over the same period last year.
Although the supply increased, tra fish production was still not enough for export orders, pushing up prices of Tra fish. The fish price reached the peak at VND 31,000 to 33,000 per kilo
The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development forecasts that supply for Tra fish raw materials for export is still not enough, so tra fish price will remain high and it may last to the end of 2018.
In the first 4 months of 2018, Tra fish export grew by 18 per cent, reaching US $ 600 million. China has become Viet Nam's largest Tra fish importer, valued at US $ 145 million, while that of the US was US $ 108 million.
Tra fish export to the US has faced many difficulties in taxation and technical barriers. In addition, another key market of Viet Nam is the EU which significantly reduced import of tra fish products from Viet Nam.
