The Prime Minister has just issued decision No. 1176/QD-TTg on September 12, 2019, approving the "Vietnam's Endangered Turtle Program for 2025 with a vision to 2030".

Accordingly, the objective of this program is to protect and sustainably develop Vietnam's endangered turtle populations and their habitats, contributing to the conservation of Vietnam's biodiversity.

Specifically, the goals to 2025 with a vision to 2030, focus on implementing a number of solutions for the conservation of endangered turtle species in Vietnam such as completing the system of legislative documents created legal basis for the conservation of endangered turtles; Strengthen activities of investigating, evaluating and researching endangered turtle species, especially for endangered precious and rare turtle species prioritized for protection; Building models, establishing and effective management of protected areas; rescue work; keeping and preserving and preserving endangered precious and rare turtle species prioritized for protection shall be effectively implemented; Strengthen the effectiveness of the management and enforcement of laws on the conservation of endangered turtles; Awareness raising and community participation in the conservation of endangered turtles.

The conservation program for endangered turtles will set up and operate two marine turtle rescue stations in Ba Ria - Vung Tau and Khanh Hoa provinces.

In addition, the program aims to establish three new species and habitat conservation areas for endangered and freshwater turtles (Expected to be implemented for the central turtle (Mauremys annamensis) populations in the area. Binh Son district, Quang Ngai province; Hoan Kiem turtle (Rafetus swinhoei) in Son Tay town, Hanoi City; box turtle of Cuora genus in the area of ​​Dong Hoa and Tay Hoa district, Phu Yen province). At the same time, it needs formulate and implement population restoration projects for a number of species of shallow turtles and freshwater turtles on the list of endangered precious and rare species prioritized for protection (expected to be selected for deployment in provinces and cities: Hanoi, Quang Ninh, Thanh Hoa, Nghe An, Quang Binh, Thua Thien Hue, Quang Nam, Quang Ngai, Phu Yen and Khanh Hoa); protect and restore habitat and breeding grounds for marine turtles, concentrated in areas such as Bai Tu Long and Co To - Thanh Lan (Quang Ninh), Hai Lang (Quang Tri), Nui Chua (Ninh Thuan) , Cam Lam (Khanh Hoa), Hon Kho - Hai Giang (Binh Dinh), Hon Cau (Binh Thuan), Con Dao (Ba Ria - Vung Tau), Tho Chu (Kien Giang) and rehabilitation of spawning grounds and habitats The number of marine turtles has been degraded in the areas of Bach Long Vy (Hai Phong), Phu Quy (Binh Thuan), Phu Quoc (Kien Giang) and Truong Sa islands (Khanh Hoa).
